Building Your Maternity Wardrobe

Being pregnant doesn't mean you have to start a whole new wardrobe or spend a fortune on bump-friendly clothes. We have some suggestions on how you can build your maternity wardrobe in 2 ways:

1. Capitalise on your existing wardrobe

  • Wear clothes that are a little big.
  • Unbutton jeans and wear with a long top.
  • Wear dresses as tops or dresses over leggings.
  • Wear long singlets underneath shorter tops.
  • Wear sarong as a dress or top in summer.
  • Check to see if you have any of the items below.

    • Anything stretchy
    • Floaty dresses and tops.
    • Tunic tops.
    • Button down tops (great for breastfeeding).
    • Leggings.
    • Wrap skirts.
    • Wrap around tops and cardigans.
    • Tube skirts (these are also really easy to make).

2. Invest in a few basic maternity pieces

The bonds bumps range has been designed and engineered to cater for you and your bump at all stages of your pregnancy and beyond.

A few other hints

  • Invest in a good pair of maternity jeans.
  • Splurge on a nice dressy outfit that makes you feel glamourous on special occasions.
  • Borrow from friends and family - most mums keep their maternity wear for the next bub, so perhaps you can find someone who's in between bubs.
  • Buy maternity clothing on sale - as soon as you find out you are pregnant, hit the sales. By the time you are at your biggest, the clothes from the sale season will be perfect for the weather.
  • Buy pieces in neutral tones or pick a few key colours so all pieces can be mixed and matched with each other.
  • Check out your partner's wardrobe. Try one of his shirts with a belt or scarf tied above the belly with some leggings or jeans. Wear his jeans too - wide leg jeans are in at the moment.
  • Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise.
  • And finally, wear your bump proudly...
