How toddlers understand the world - 2 to 3 years

Between 2 and 3 years, your child will begin to be curious about the world around him and how he fits into it. As he doesn't have the ability to understand anything bigger than his direct experience, he may find it confusing and even a little worrying.

Speech development - 1 to 2 years

Towards the end of her first year, your baby will reward you with her first word. And from that moment on, she will continually amaze you with the rate at which she learns new words.

Physical development - 1 to 2 years

Once your toddler is up and walking, parenting gets a whole lot more challenging and you and your home will never be the same again.

Language development in toddlerhood is like all other areas of development at this age - fast! Once he's mastered a couple of words, your toddler will quickly begin to expand his vocabulary.

Baby awareness - 9 to 12 months

He can see and is interested in small objects which he reaches out for. He looks in the right direction for objects that he has dropped.

Baby physical development - 9 to 12 months

He can balance himself when sitting - he can reach out for an object without toppling over. Give him lots of opportunities to get moving. Don't keep him restricted in a high chair, stroller or baby seat when he could be exploring and practicing his new skills.

Baby speech and language development - 9 to 12 months

He is stringing a range of babbling sounds together to makes a 'sentence'. Sing songs with him and bounce him on your knee so he gets to enjoy your singing and the rhythm!

Baby social and emotional development - 6 to 9 months

Play Peekaboo - she'll enjoy the game and also help to learn that you are still around even when she can't see you. Let her play with a mirror - she will find it fascinating that she can see another baby
