BONDS100 ART INSTALLATION: MEET LACHLAN PHILP
Posted in: people

We’re so excited about our 100th birthday art installation; it’s not even funny! Right now if you head on down to Melbourne Central, you can see the stunning work of six of the country’s most talented young typographers and illustrators, who have created this one-of-a-kind mural.

Lachlan

One of those talented kids is Lachlan Philp, a communications designer who works for a small studio in Melbourne’s south-east and digs hand lettering. Locky’s love of lettering even extends to work spaces, where he whips up typographic wall messages to inspire and delight. Find out more about Locky in our Q&A with him below…

What Bonds item can't you live without?

Can’t go wrong with a good ol’ basic black hoody.

How would you describe your design aesthetic? Simple and fun. I like working with minimal colours, often with just black and white.

LachlanWork3 What first got you into typography? I began re-drawing famous logos and typefaces, I loved being able to see the subtleties and nuances of type and letters. From there I discovered the huge community of hand lettering and type and became immersed and obsessed!

What was the inspiration for your Bonds design?

I drew inspiration for my artwork from Bond's bold patterns and colour palettes.

When you think of Bonds, what springs to mind?

Iconic!

If you could be any font, which one would you be, and why?

I’m going to be really obscure and say anything from the Colophon Type Foundry. Any type nerds out there should definitely check it out; it has a great balance between creativity and functionality.
