When tasked with turning up the wow-factor on our women's undie and bra Mash Up range, the Bonds design team had so much to work with. Inspired by everything from Australia's sandy beaches to a mad hatter's garden tea party, nothing was off limits in terms of imagination. Find out what motivated the design team to make a mix and match range like never before.
What was the idea behind the creation of the new women’s Mash Up range of undies and bras?
We wanted to create a range that had a feel good attitude and the positive spirit of youth.
Who is this range aimed at?
The range is aimed at our youth consumer, she is connected and has her girl gang. The girl who loves Snap Chat, YouTube and just hanging out at the pool or the beach.
Why do you think the Bonds Hipster is still so popular 25 years since it first launched?
The Hipster is an Australian icon, people have grown up with it and love it. With each new generation comes to the realisation that not only does it look great, it’s also super comfortable and amazing quality.
What new shapes/colours/prints have you introduced in this range?
We have introduced our Match Its range which offer comfortable everyday shapes. Made from comfy cotton fabric, they include soft folded cotton waistbands and flat leg lines. There are also soft crops available in the mix to complete the total look. The mix and match panelling and lace tops create lots of variety for the youth girl who wants a versatile and affordable underwear drawer revamp.
What influenced the print and palette choices?
We had three themes that we concentrated on for the season that work beautifully together in a mash it up way. Our Match Its range is inspired by our "Surf Sider" trend. This is a nostalgic look at our Australian summers, of beings salt-washed and sun-kissed. Soaking up the warm glow of our gorgeous coastline or burning our toes on the concrete by the pool. Our new Hipster and New Era ranges reference the trend "Culture Club," a melting pot of cultures featuring tribal geo prints, wood block florals, bold stripes, and folk embroidery. Our Hipster and Lacies ranges are inspired by our "Blooming Mad" mad hatter garden party trend. It has a kooky, anything goes vibe with an Australiana flora and fauna twist.
How can the range be mixed and matched?
Our palettes flow beautifully into each other which means if you want to wear your favourite Hipster shape you can easily team it up with a Lacies top. Think the kookier combinations the better.
What’s your favourite piece/shape from the range and why?
That's a tricky one as each print and shape have a reason for being. I do love our black micro leopard with our pretty gold foil layer and the Halter Crop in our Bloom print which looks so impactful.
