TIPS & TRICKS

Anyone can point their camera phone and snap a pic or shoot a video of their bub, but how do you make yours stand out from the crowd? Here are some of our best tips and tricks for capturing a memorable Baby Search photo or video.

PHOTO TIPS

Be Creative

BE
CREATIVE

Finding a different angle or a way to capture your bub's personality is what Baby Search is all about. Experiment as you shoot and remember to keep shooting no matter what - you never know when the perfect moment will arrive.

See the light

SEE
THE LIGHT

No matter how good your camera phone is, it can't make up for bad light. The best light is natural light and the best time to get it is just after sunrise or just before sunset. If you can't shoot at these time, be sure to avoid the strong light of midday.

Get up close & personal

GET UP
CLOSE & PERSONAL

Close-ups of your baby's face are great for capturing more detail and emotion such as a cheeky smile or funny expression. Shooting at your baby's eye level will show their perspective rather than yours. Using your camera phone is perfectly acceptable.

Set the scene

SET
THE SCENE

Avoid background clutter as it pulls the viewer's attention away. Photo filters are fun but we want to see as much of your bub's natural personality as possible, so the fewer the better. Image manipulation is a no-no too.

VIDEO TIPS

This year we've added baby video as an extra prize category. Videos are linked from your Facebook or Instagram accounts, which must be set to public. Please adjust your settings if it's currently set to private. Not interested? That's okay, this category is entirely optional and will not affect the outcome of your bub's photo entry.

Personality Plus

PERSONALITY
PLUS

Home videos are what this category is all about - we want to see your bub's cheeky, playful, quirky personality shine through so make personality over perfection your aim.

Substance over style

SUBSTANCE
OVER STYLE

Avoid video editing by adding music, captions or special effects - remember we're looking for personality rather than the quality of the video. You don't need a fancy camera or expensive equipment.

Lighting & Backdrop

LIGHTING &
BACKDROP

Great natural lighting and a reduced amount of background clutter and noise will help keep the attention on your bub.

Sound

SOUND

Make sure your video is in focus and the sound (if applicable) is loud enough to hear.
