We're welcoming to the world of Bonds, our brand new ambassador for summer, Jai Courtney!
The Aussie actor was born in Sydney's Northwest and has starred alongside Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise in previous roles. Now, Courtney is set to star in the new action film Terminator: Genesis, with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Looking all tough and manly in his Bonds, we got to catch up with Jai to find out more about the man behind the body.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a suburb called Cherrybrook in Sydney’s Northwest. I don’t live there anymore but it’s still well and truly “home”.
What’s your dream movie role?
I think they’ve all been taken! I don’t know.. I’d love to do some animation someday soon.
What’s the most interesting character you have played so far?
I recently finished working with Russell Crowe on The Water Diviner playing a character called Lt. Col. Cyril Hughes. He was a real person and an important figure in Australian history as he was appointed head of the Imperial Graves Commission after WWI and spearheaded the operation of located the ANZACs who’d fallen on Gallipoli. I found it a wonderful privilege to play a biographical character, especially someone so important to our military heritage.
How is it being an Australian in Hollywood? Are other Aussies supportive?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some great Australian actors and form strong relationships. That always helps when you're making the leap to another country. Supporting our mates is something we as Aussies do incredibly well. I think Los Angeles or the idea of “Hollywood” means something different to every Aussie actor whos makes that migration. Some struggle and hate it, others grow to love the place. I’m happy residing there for now.
How does it feel to be part of the Bonds family now?
Bonds is an iconic Australian brand that we all grew up with. I’ve been wearing Bonds singlets and undies since I was old enough to dress so I’m proud to be aligned with you guys.
You’ve released four films this year, what’s next for you?
I’m currently filming Terminator: Genesis and will shoot Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, shortly. A fantastic Aussie film I worked on called Felony will drop in the next few months and there are some exciting releases coming up around Christmas. Busy times. No complaints!
