FIVE MINS WITH HOME GROWN TALENT: MAIA MITCHELL
Posted in: people

She's the Aussie actress who's gone on to star in the hit U.S. TV show, The Fosters, for the past five years. Now, Maia Mitchell is turning to the camera for another reason - as one of the many homegrown ambassadors to star in our new Home Grown™ tees campaign. Appearing alongside Cody Simpson and Charlee Fraser, Maia took a moment out of her busy schedule to chat with us.

What does being an Aussie mean to you?

I think that where you grow up and where your roots are informs a lot about a person. Australia is where I go to connect with the people and places I relate to most.

Where did you grow up and what was it like?

I grew up in Lismore, NSW. It’s a small town but its also a pool for creative people and art and is very rich in culture. I think growing up in that kind of environment gave me a license to be creative but with the benefits of a small and quite intimate community.

What’s your approach to your everyday style?

I guess I’m pretty low key. It’s usually jeans and a T-shirt. Sometimes trackies.

What kind of T-shirt wearer are you?

I like very oversized T-shirts, and I usually stick to high waisted pants so I also own a lot of cropped tees.

How do you like to wear your staple tees?

I feel most comfortable in an oversized shirt, sometimes tucked into jeans.

What do you look for in a T-shirt?

Comfort! Comfy cotton T-shirts are the only way to go.

What’s your secret style tip?

Wear what you feel most comfortable in. Feeling good in your body is always the most flattering approach.

What other Bonds items do you like?

I grew up wearing Bonds undies and singlets. Every year in the Christmas stocking!

What does a typical day look like for you?

On a day off I’m usually at home eating take away and watching Netflix. I also really enjoy being in the car so I’ll often create errands for myself on the opposite side of town, which I know is probably very strange.

What’s it like to be able to pursue your passion on a global scale?

It’s fun! I feel like I’m constantly travelling which is very exciting. I do miss home a lot and hope to eventually settle down in Australia.

What has been a pinch-yourself moment in your life so far to date?

I was recently invited a small town called Goiania in Brazil for this huge Brazilian country music festival. It was definitely a culture shock and something I’d never have predicted.
