For her latest take on all things Queendom, we chatted to Yan Yan Chan, the Chinese-Australian digital creator whose penchant for laid-back pieces has made her highly followed by fashion fans. Here, she shares her thoughts on blogging, inspiration, and female solidarity.
How did you first get into blogging?
In 2010, film and photography were my electives, and I was working on my first body of work for Visual Arts, so I decided to create a blog where I could document my thought process and what inspired me at the time. It was - and still is - a platform for me to experiment creatively.
What’s been your proudest career moment?
Being able to work for myself is already so incredible, and forever surreal. I'm proud of that, and I'm proud I get to work in a female-dominated industry that thrives on supporting one another. I can also go on and on about all the things I'm proud of in this little endeavour of mine, but I am super grateful to be able to travel and work with people from all parts of the world. It's pretty special.
Describe yourself in three words.
Spontaneous, passionate and visual.
Do you have any advice for anyone wishing to break into the industry?
Breaking into any industry is tough, but maintaining authenticity towards yourself and towards your work is something that will outshine everything else. Work hard, be respectful, and be kind. And if you’re not hungry and passionate, you’re in the wrong place.
Where is your ‘queendom’?
When I’m surrounded by like-minded people, it can be anywhere in the world.
What one piece of advice would you give a younger you?
Everything always falls into place - if it doesn’t, it’s not meant to be. Something better will always present itself, just welcome it with open arms.
Where do you find inspiration?
When I'm in a good mindset I can find inspiration anywhere.
Which undies make you feel your best?
Anything cotton and soft.
