We recently sat down with our wonderful new ambassador
Isabelle Cornish to chat about her hometown of Newcastle and where she likes to head when she has some down time.
And while we’re on the topic of talented locals and what they like to do…
Professional wave-rider/surf instructor
Jye Byrnes and Bonds are giving you the chance to win a surf lesson for you and a mate! Details are below; so go ahead and take a leisurely scroll on down through all the fun things you can do in beautiful Newcastle:
Burwood Beach + Bathers Way
The scenic path stretching from the lighthouse at Nobbys Headland along Burwoord Beach to the amazing Glenrock, known as 'Bathers Way' is the perfect place to get those legs well and truly stretched. The City of Newcastle has some great
information on the walking track and all that you can do in the surrounding area.
Isabelle says: Going for walks on Burwood Beach, where the baths are, is
really cool
.
AKK
Address: 643 Hunter St, Newcastle NSW 2300
If your mouth is in the mood for the flavours of Asia, short of jumping on a plane, this is your go to for all the basics and hard to find ingredients. Be sure to shop on a full stomach or you’ll end up grabbing everything delicious looking (ie. Everything).
Isabelle says: The Asian Grocery on Hunter Street has the best food.
Goldbergs
Address: 137 Darby St, Newcastle NSW 2300
Breakfast at Goldbergs is the perfect way to start your day of Newcastle exploration, so be sure to head on down, grab a coffee and consider yourself an honorary local.
Isabelle says: I would say for coffee, my favourite place would be Goldbergs, on Darby Street.
Kitami
Address: 113-125 Darby St, Cooks Hill NSW 2300
Generally considered the best Japanese restaurant in Newcastle, Kitami is always a healthy and delicious dinner destination. Try not to freak out when you go, but yes, that is a “life-sized” zen garden.
Isabelle says: For dinner my favourite is kitami, the Japanese restaurant.
Bar Beach and Magic Mountain
Bar Beach itself has everything you could possibly want for a beach day out: kiosk facilities, picnic areas, public toilets, parking and it’s patrolled by Newcastle legends (lifeguards).
Isabelle says: Magic Mountain gives you a lookout across the ocean and across all of the city, you get to it at the top of Bar Beach carpark. Bar Beach is also
highly recommended.
Now, if you’re going to surf,
this is where you want to go. If you don’t exactly know how to surf but would love to learn (even better!), we’ve got
just the thing for you:
