Mason Jar Solar Night Light // by Ms Candy Sparkles
Posted in: people
header Mason Jars are pretty and practical - especially when converted into a night light! Making these lights can be simple provided you source a just-the-right-fit light for your mason jar. photo 2 I recommend using a WIDE-MOUTHED mason jar (snapped mine up at the ever-so-awesome Wilkins and Kent) with the solar garden lamp pictured (from Bunnings) – they’re a perfect fit. Remove the two-piece lid from your mason jar and put the silver disc from it aside. Twist the top part of your garden light off, if there’s an on/off switch flick it to “on”. photo 3 Test to see if your light will fit in the jar whilst it still has the silver rim on it – if not you can slip this off slowly but surely. Test to see if it fits again – without pushing it all the way in – as you may want to decorate your jar first (the light’s difficult to remove once in place). photo 4 When you are ready to fasten your light in permanently, push it into the neck of the jar making sure that it’s level, and finishes up flush with the lip of the jar. Screw the silver ring on top of it. photo 1[1] Fancy-up yo night light by filling it with disco balls, or cutting fake grass in a circle (the size of the lid) and putting that in the base of the jar with a dinosaur or two. Running glue around the interior then sprinkling it with glitter gives a fun effect, or stenciling pictures on the jar is rad. Securing objects using a glue gun is advised if it’s for your kiddlywink’s room and they’re likely to move it around. A terrarium in your jar is also an option - watch out for my “How to Make a Terrarium” post coming up next! photo 3[1] Remember that solar lights need sunshine throughout the day to charge – a window sill is a great location for your light, as is hanging it outside under an awning (rain will get in unless you use outdoor double sided tape to seal between the light and the jar). Hang one of these by your front door and you’ll never struggle to find the keyhole in the dark again!
