Pregnancy can be a wonderful and exciting time in your life. But it can also be one where we need to review our daily habits and modify them to suit our changing body. Nobody knows this better right now than Sydney influencer Mon Bowie, who is currently expecting her first child. As someone who loves fitness, we asked the mama-to-be what she's doing to keep active while bumping along.
Firstly, I am definitely not working out as much as I was before I fell pregnant. During my first trimester, I had no energy and was always tired so it was really hard to find the motivation to get up and move. Now that I’m in my second trimester, I have started to feel like my old self again, with increased energy levels and feeling generally better overall to find that drive to go to the gym.
My favourite kind of exercise is Pilates and weights which allows me to maintain my pre-pregnancy workouts but at a lower intensity. I have been working out 2-3 times each week as I feel it’s important to keep active during pregnancy, even if it’s just walk outside in nature to get those endorphins pumping!
When I work out at the gym I also use lighter weights with more repetitions to help maintain strength, which is so important as your body is going through so many changes. Everyone’s experience during pregnancy is different. There are some days where I don’t feel like working out, which is why it’s important to listen to your body and not put too much pressure on yourself. On those days, I just incorporate some movement wherever I can. Being active is so important for my body, my mind but also for recovery once this baby arrives.
