Q&A with our Xmas Ad Star: Tanya Bunter
Posted in: people

You’ve probably heard Tanya Bunter on community radio airwaves across the country. Hailing from sunny Perth, Tanya is all babe, brains and bang-on when it comes to taste in music! She most recently took a mini-break away from presenting Triple J to ‘slay’ in our new Christmas film. We chatted to her about life, loves, and side hustles.

Your trip away with the Bonds fam was a very salty one. How was that?!

It was such a great time! Hanging out in a really secluded spot on a property that just happens to be on a sea lake was such a nice holiday feel. I’d seen pictures of the area we were going to shoot at but seeing the perfect horizontal panels of blue sky and salty pans was breathtaking. And I also had a huge tonne of nerdy fun watching how the production team create their shots.

Best road trip moment?

Meeting the models and all of us packing into a family mover for a four-plus hour drive. Getting to chat to each other about what music that we love - Erykah Badu was one of the main features on the way to sea lake.

Now, you’re usually the one asking the questions. How tables have turned! How did you end up here?

Last February I moved from Perth to Melbourne to get some more work experience within the radio industry. In the past I had done a little photo shoot with my friend for his swimwear label. I really enjoyed the creative process behind photography, body angles and having some nice photos made me feel more confident about my body. So, when I got a direct message from the girls at People Agency, I was keen to see what it would be like to do this a bit more. I really liked the vibe of the agency and how they were on the same page as I was in wanting to promote diversity in the fashion industry so I thought why not?

Which do you love more on screen or airwaves?

Radio will always have to be my first broadcasting love. It has always been my favourite companion and there is something comfortable for me about just having thoughts, feelings, music and a medium to connect with people.

You’ve obviously got your fingers in a lot of amazing pots. Any more we should know about?

At the moment just radio, a recent dabble in the modelling world and selling shoes.

What do you want in your stocking for Christmas?

I’m a sucker for sentimental gifts, so if there is a well written card in there that makes me reminisce about some great memories I’m usually very stocked. If someone insists on giving some money, a few funds towards a trip away I’d love!
