-- Q&A --

Tell us about becoming the face of Bonds.

Becoming the face of Bonds has been a really exciting experience for me. Growing up in Australia, Bonds always had the biggest Australian model of the year, and her face was ubiquitous. I’m really excited to be occupying that hallowed space…and in addition Bonds is just a really iconic brand that always seemed to mix sporty and girly in a very natural and unobtrusive manner.

What was it about Bonds that made it feel like a good fit for you?

I’m not the type of girl to get super dressed up when I leave the house and I think that especially with the expansion into apparel, that’s what this Bonds campaign is all about. Looking put together but effortless, like you’re ready to do something athletic at any given moment.

What was it like working on the Bonds 100 campaign?

It was awesome. My friend Thomas (with whom I’ve worked several times) was the photographer, so it was really fun to see him. They also gave me a doggie go-pro for my bulldogs!

What's your favourite look from the Bonds range?

That’s really hard to say but I just love the floral prints! They were really fun and I like that Bonds, which generally keeps everything very classic and monochrome has branched out in that regard.

Have you found life in the public eye daunting?

I’ve commented on this before, but I definitely have found it daunting to some extent. To start with, getting followed by cameras any time you leave your house can make you feel trapped and claustrophobic in a really negative way. There’s also a lot of pressure to always be switched on socially because any time you walk into a room there’s at least 20 people who are watching your every move!

What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken in your career?

The biggest risk I’ve ever taken in my career was moving to Miami on my own when I was only 16. That was pretty bold…and I guess it paid off.

What do you do to stay in shape and keep healthy?

Recently I’ve gotten really into horseback riding, which is surprisingly a really good core workout. Other than that, I would say just eating well and planning my disgusting yet delicious meals around a workout.

What do you think of Australian vs. American style?

To be completely honest, I don’t think there’s as much of a huge difference any more. I think style is really so universal now especially because of the Internet. We all take cues from one another.

You have become such an influential style icon in fashion; who have been your style inspirations? Or what is your style philosophy?

Thank you! My philosophy is just to have fun and not worry too much about getting it perfect every time. You have to love what you’re wearing and be able to own it regardless of what other people may think.

What have been your fashion highlights?

I loved my Armani look I wore at the Grammys, I took a risk with my hair and I was really happy to see it create its own debate. It's JUST hair!

What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re back in Australia?

I love to visit bakeries and eat pies and turn overs, I miss all our snacks! American snacks are way too focused on crisps and things that come in plastic bags that are kind of hard to open.

Who are your modern day Australian heroes?

I think Sia is pretty cool, she's my Australian musical hero. I like that she tackled the music business on her own terms and it's very Australian to add your own twist to things.

We’ve got New Classic on constant rotation in the office; what are your top 3 musical picks of the moment?

I love Kendrick Lamar “To Pimp A Butterfly,” Taylor Swift “1989” and Kehlani “Cloud 19.”

You have such an inspiring story and a strong commitment to achieving your dreams; what advice would you give to young Australians about achieving success?

I would say that the best advice is to figure out what you want to do, and ignore everybody that tells you might not be able to do it. I’ve had to do that about 10 million times along the road to where I’m at now.

What motto do you live by?

Hmmm…”Stunt politely on these rude individuals”

What does 'comfort' mean to you?

Comfort means being comfortable in your own skin. For me, it means not having to be put together every time I leave the house. It’s about feeling confident in your tracky dacks.
