Have you heard? We've got a fresh new range of Lacies
, and an even fresher face to show them off!
Introducing Dylan Penn, the awesome 22-year-old daughter of Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn and House of Cards actress Robin Wright. UK Vogue has labelled her “One to Watch” and now, we're proud to have her as the ultimate Bonds girl. A tomboy at heart, Dylan is a self-confessed creature of comfort and loves the style and ease of Bonds.
Tell me about becoming the face of Bonds.
Having been in the limelight from a young age, Dylan is now following in the footsteps of her superstar dad, as she's set to star in the 2015 film, Condemned.
Lilith Hardie Lupica from Vogue Australia caught up with Dylan about her new role as the face of Bonds Lacies. Read on....
After looking at the clothes and seeing the comfortable, useful vibe of Bonds, I really wanted to do it and it’s been everything that I imagined. The team is so amazing, you know this is only my first day and I just feel very at home. It’s been great so far – I’m new to modelling.
Have you ever been to Australia before?
I have! I actually spent about two months years ago in Port Douglas. My father was shooting a film there so I have very fond memories of being a younger child there. I was there in the summer so it was beautiful but I’d definitely like to go back now I’m of age.
What do you do to stay in shape and keep healthy?
I’m not a big fan of working out. Living in Los Angeles makes it much easier for me; I don’t ever have an excuse not to be outside. I live three blocks away from the beach so every day I walk down to the beach to run or go swimming. Hiking is a big one for me – so long as it’s something where I’m not thinking about working out, like in a contrived class or the gym.
Modelling can take a big toll on your skin and hair. Do you have any tips for combating that?
I wear sunscreen every single day – I just don’t go out of the house without it. I also try to get enough sleep, eat as healthy as I can and keep hydrated. I have very sensitive skin, and depending on what products are used on a shoot, my skin can break out in an instant.
What are the top three beauty products that you can’t live without?
My Kiehl’s face moisturiser and Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturiser. And I literally cannot go a day without Dior mascara because otherwise I look like I don’t have any eyelashes.
Now you’re making your acting debut in a horror movie set in New York.
It’s funny because I’ve resisted acting as a career for most of my life. But both my parents told me if I ever want to direct, I should act first because no director should direct until they know what it’s like to be in the actor’s shoes. I thought that was really good advice and it just felt like the right time to take advantage of an offer which I know most people dream to get. We shot the movie in 20 days and I’ve never learnt so much about myself or grown so much in such a short period as I did with this film. It was written and directed by Eli Gesner, I really admired his writing as a writer myself.
Is writing something you’re looking to get into professionally?
Yes, definitely. Writing has always been my main passion. I’ve written multiple short films for myself but I think acting has caught my interest right now.
Have you found life in the public eye daunting?
It’s not something I pay much attention to. The industry isn’t something I talk about on a daily basis, it’s just something that I’m interested in for a career and nothing more.
Unlike almost everyone else in your generation, you aren’t on social media. No Twitter or Instagram. Is that liberating?
The whole ‘selfie’ thing is not really my vibe I guess. I’m a very private person and I feel like I’m already starting in an industry that’s very public so anything I can keep special or private, to myself, is something that I find is very precious.
More often you’re being described as an It girl. How do you feel about the term?
I don’t really think of myself as that but I’m flattered by the term, even though I don’t really know what that means exactly. I guess following your own path may be part of that and I feel like I try to do that as much as I can.
What do you do to take time out and relax?
Just being by the beach is the best thing for me. I can walk three blocks down the street from my house and I’m on the sand. I’m a big backgammon player so that’s something I do with my free time.
What was the last book you read?
. It’s a really great story by this guy who actually escaped prison in Australia and fled to India. It’s about his journey there it’s just a really beautiful story. I’ve never been to India and it was kind of the thing that made me want to go.
How would you describe your personal style?
I guess I’m pretty tomboyish. I go for anything that’s comfortable; I love skinny jeans, converse and a T-shirt – that is like my uniform. It’s pretty basic.
When you’re in New York where are your favourite places to shop and eat?
I’m not really a big shopper, I kind of hate it. To eat, Craft would be one and The Spotted Pig has to be another one of my favourite spots.
What’s next for you?
Nothing, I am free. I’m just going to relax this summer.
